Grand
Premier Menehunes Minniemow
Millions and millions of years ago... Long before anyone can remember, there was a planet where little people lived One day the planet fell apart, and the little people jumped on shooting stars and landed all over the world. Today they are known by a different name in each country. In
Ireland they are known as Leprechauns. For
some reason they have never been as famous all around the world as the
other little people have. But everybody in Hawaii knows about them and
their magical powers and good deeds. When the first natives from Tahiti landed on the Hawaiian beaches they were hungry, but the Menehunes took care of them and nursed them back to health. The Menehunes spend most of their lives doing good deeds. They are jolly happy little people and make other people happy, too. Because the Menehunes are shy, most of their good works are done at night. Nobody every really knows how. But often people will say "The Menehunes must have done this. How else could it have happened overnight?" A
few very special people are sometimes allowed to see and talk to the Menehunes.
You have to drink a glass of Menehune juice before you can see or hear
a Menehune, and only a Menehune can give you this juice. And it is because
of these special people that we know about the Menehunes. One time a big tidal wave was about to wash away the house of some good people on the island. So the King of the Menehunes blew his horn and hundreds of Menehunes came and formed a great big line along the shore and stood there with their hands clasped waiting for the wave to come. But the wave was so afraid of the Menehunes that it fell apart and filled up Kaneohe Bay. And everything was peaceful, and the house was saved. There are sharks all over the South Pacific but none of them ever come near the Hawaiian beaches. This is because the Menehunes patrol the water, flying overhead on sea gulls. If a shark comes close to the beaches, the Menehunes on guard blow their horns to summon the Menehunes from all over the islands. They get into their little canoes and paddles out to where the sharks are. They form big lines and beat their sticks on the water. The sticks make the sharks afraid, and the Menehunes keep rowing and pushing the sharks ahead of them out into the deep water where they cannot hurt anyone. Just about everything that seems like magic that happens in the Hawaiian Islands is thanks to these good little people who look after the islands and the people who live there. THE END!
